| Job Description |
- Contribute to the development of hardware and system specifications during proposal development stages.
- Provide systems design and engineering in Phase II and Phase III projects. This includes prototype development and taking existing prototypes to the next stage of development.
- Work closely with other engineers and departments based on project/customer objectives and specifications to design, develop, and verify designs of proposed systems. Conduct design reviews and design checks to minimize the number of design spins required prior to release or production.
- Support other members of the engineering team by providing supportive services in systems design and integration, prototype development, environmental engineering, testing at the systems and component levels, and field testing.
- Lead development custom boards and pieces of hardware to meet unique product needs.
- Support the R&D test process and infrastructure by developing and executing test plans on the system and component level, validating diagnostic tools, conducting & refining hardware design validation test methods, environmental engineering and testing, and conducting debugging activities for prototypes.
- Document system designs, core components, testing plans, and results.

The ability to multitask across projects is also essential. A positive, “get the job done” attitude will be rewarded. The ability to jump in and get to work with little direction and supervision will be of significant benefit.
The successful candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience: |
- 10+ years hands-on experience designing, developing, and integrating hardware into products.
- Experience with the development and testing of RF systems from 800 MHz – 2 GHz.
- Experience with development and testing of high speed digital circuitry, FPGAs, and firmware requirements.
- Familiarity with all phases of product development and proven success taking at least one product from concept through prototype and into the production stage.
- Effective planning skills with an ability to manage to schedules and cost.
- Demonstrated strong aptitude and technical skills in debugging a multitude of hardware failure types; and demonstrated depth and proficiency in working with all broad-level debugging instruments (i.e., logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, analog/digital measurement devices, power devices).
- Effectively worked with a multidisciplinary team of engineers including hardware, software, firmware and systems engineers.
- Experienced in analyzing and selecting appropriate components and modules for a product, such as chips, boards, and power supplies.
- This position may require a high level of chip or PCB development and will require the engineer to fully understand chip and board level schematics and functions to build products and isolate failures at the component level.
- Experience developing products in one of the following areas: real-time systems, radar systems, RF communications, GPS receivers, digital signal processing, antennas.
- Experience running MATLAB test tools.
- A working knowledge of RF communications, GPS receivers, digital signal processing, and/or antennas.
