Sr. Software Developer – Real-Time/Embedded Systems
 

Job Summary

This challenging position offers an experienced Real-Time and Embedded Software Engineer an opportunity to make major contributions to our GPS Receiver product-line development efforts, performing real-time code development and systems integration on Linux and Windows systems.  We are looking for an innovative software developer with strong hardware and firmware integration skills who can figure out “how to make it work."

 
Job Description

This individual will work as a member of the software technical staff on various projects related to our GPS and DSP products. This position requires an experienced self-starter who is able to jump in and hit the ground running and is equally able to work effectively on a team and perform individually. This engineer will work independently with high level direction and minimal day to day supervision.

Essential functions for this position:

  1. This individual will be hands-on and will develop detailed software requirements, specifications and software test plans based on project/product specifications and control system requirements.
  2. This individual will design, code, and test new software, as well as modify existing software with minimal supervision.
  3. This engineer will generate and integrate software with hardware, 3rd party interface cards, and firmware developed by other team members, to make working systems, and will perform software testing.
  4. This individual will develop low level software drivers to integrate hardware.
  5. This engineer may serve as the technical lead on a project and direct the software engineering and development tasks of a three to five other engineers on the development team.  On other projects, this engineer will serve as a contributing member.
  6. The individual will participate in writing software documentation, technical reports, developing software cost and schedule estimates, and authoring software development plans
Requirements

The following are requirements for consideration:

  • Highly developed (10+ years of experience) skills designing, implementing, and testing C or C++ software.
  • Strong problem solving and software debugging skills.
  • The applicant has worked on a project which demonstrates the ability to successfully integrate hardware, software, and firmware into an operational system.
  • Experience working with real-time Windows and Linux OSs, such as RTLinux Pro*, RTX for Windows*, VxWorks, LynxOS, or QNX. (*preferred)
  • Experience using Object-Oriented Architecture/Design (OOA/OOD).

The following are desirable for consideration:

  • Moderate competency in Java.
  • Industry experience in GPS, DSP, or DoD space navigation programs is highly desirable.
  • Experience in generating or integrating computer security/encryption is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Unified Modeling Language (UML) highly desired.
  • PCI Bus driver experience a plus!
  • Strong organizational/planning/multi-tasking skills required.
  • Working knowledge of Java Real Time Specification is highly desired.
  • Experience with Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) and Software Communications Architecture (SCA).
  • Knowledge of SEI CMM/CMMI.
  • ACE Orb (TAO) or CORB.
Citizenship, Education, and Security Clearance
  • BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Applicant must be able to pass a background investigation & fingerprint check.  An active clearance is a plus.
